A Play in Progress

Act I: Opening Monolog

Open on a screen above the stage: A projection of cells multiplying.

A woman in her 30s enters the stage from the left. She addresses the audience.

Narrator: The day you were born, you almost died. The amniotic fluid spiked by Mother Nature herself. Trapped in the belly of the beast, floating in poison, for 24 hours, your ultimate safe space was Chernobyl. Even before you met him, your father was your white knight. To the last drop, they squeezed all of your fresh blood from your tiny little body like toothpaste and replaced it with - yes - his.  Maybe that’s why he became your personal god, larger than life, because while your mother birthed you, he gave you life.

SFX: Crying baby

Pregnant pause.

Woman: And then he left.

Woman: Again and again and again.
